  1. Oh no, I wish I would have seen this in March when I was totally stuck for ideas for my mother in law. I am a widow but still keep in touch with my MIL and buy her gifts at Christmas, birthday and Mother’s Day. I have bookmarked this post and will check back on it next year as I expect I’ll be stuck then too! Maybe also in November for her birthday and at Christmas too!

  2. Such nice ideas, I was just starting to wonder what I could get my mom this year and this post has given me some really useful pointers to get me started. Thanks!

  3. Debbie Evans says:

I wish my son had seen this before Mother’s Day this year – he got me a pair of tights, of all things!! He has been taught weaponised incompetence by his father unfortunately and I am trying to re-educate him but he doesn’t want to listen at the moment. I hope this will change in time.

  4. Rachael Kidd says:

This is such a handy post, not just for Mother’s Day (I am in the US so it’s coming up in a month or so) but also for birthday and Christmas ideas. I sent the link to my brothers as well, they are terrible at choosing gifts for our mom so I am hoping it will give them some much-needed inspiration. Thanks!

  5. Fiona Day-Evans says:

Lots of great ideas, thanks for this!
As a mum, I would say that something personal and from the heart is far more valuable to me than my kids spending a silly amount on something material.
    Hope that helps x

  6. Kevin White says:

Coming back to this post to say THANK YOU for the ideas and inspiration. I had no idea what to get my mom this year but your suggestions are great and helped me and my brother get our mom some really great and special gifts this year. Gonna come back to this post again next year for more inspiration, cheers!

  7. I feel sad for people who don’t know what to buy their mom for Mother’s Day or birthday or Christmas or whatever. I know sometimes it’s hard to be inventive and think of something exciting but surely you know your mom well enough to know what she likes, so just buy her something in line with that. I buy my mom hand soap every Mother’s Day as she loves the sets I get her and she uses it all year round. You don’t need to get something different every year, just make sure it’s something she loves and shows that you love her and know her.

  8. Zoe Taylor-Mills says:

My son told me he read this post and got inspiration for the present he got me from it so I’ve come to say thank you. He is autistic and doesn’t have much imagination so you helped him to work out what I’d like and he did a great job this year. I’m so grateful, thanks for helping a lovely kid who struggles to work out what to buy people.

  9. My mom is really fussy and VERY particular about gifting traditions in our family. Every year I get so stressed worrying about what to buy her, I mean I love her of course but I panic about buying the wrong thing or offending her somehow. But your post ended up being really helpful to me as I realised I didn’t have to buy something physical like chocolates or a beauty kit or whatever, I could buy her an experience. So this year we went for English Tea at a place about an hour from us, I made a day it with her and spoilt her rotten. She had a great day, thank goodness! So I am really thankful as now I will try to think of things we can do together as a gift rather than buying material goods that she probably doesn’t need and maybe won’t even like.

  10. Carrie Lewis says:

Just wanted to say thanks for this post! I have never had trouble thinking of ideas for my mom but your article has given me a ton of new perspectives so I’ve got more ideas than ever now! I have made a list of things I can get her for the next few years, I am so excited for her birthday, Christmas and next Mother’s Day now, she is going to get some lovely gifts from me and my family 🙂
